Brahms
Intermezzo
Op. 118, No. 2
The
recording that you heard is indeed a Brahms Intermezzo. The main
theme of this composition continually uses the note A as its peak.
However, when the main A major theme returns (after a passionate
F sharp minor middle section), it finally rises to the note B. This
is one of many wonderful aspects contained within this monumental
work.
Decoys
The
amazing Opus 48, No. 1 Nocturne by Chopin
was written in 1841. Chopin’s C minor composition eventually
modulates to the tonic major and incorporates gently rolling chords.
However, this section eventually builds with octaves into a climactic
frenzy, before returning to the original key
and melody,
now stated with an underlying triplet rhythm.
Schumann
wrote his Davidsbündler Op. 6, No. 14 character piece back
in 1837. Written in Eb major, it’s a gentle and lovely short
work in 3/4 time.
