Get Your Cello Sonata Here
The cello
sonata is wonderful in the hands of a master. For me, I always look
to two Brahms cello sonatas: Sonata No. 1 in E minor (Opus 38) and
Sonata No. 2 in F major (Opus 99). There’s so much inspiration
there and I would highly suggest some intense listening in order
to appreciate the cello’s craftsmanship.
The
instruments four strings are tuned as such: C, G, a, and d. Notice
that I used upper case (capitals) for the first two letters that
describe the tuning. The capitals indicate that the C and G are
two octaves and a perfect eleventh (an octave and a perfect fourth)
below middle
C respectively.
Andrea
Amati was one of the early makers of this instrument way back in
the sixteenth century. Big improvements came to this instrument
in the eighteenth century including a higher bridge, and a more
slender and lengthy neck.
One
of the giants in the cello performing world was the one and only
Mstislav Rostropovich. Yo-Yo Ma is, of course, another legend.
