Before we get into a discussion about diminished triads, here’s a list of other items that can diminish your composing difficulties:

• A nice soak in a jacuzzi;

• A movie on a big screen television;

• A spin around the block in a Ferrari.

The above list helps you to deal with stress, which many times are a terrible hamper to the creative mind. Of course, the creative problems could stem from lack of knowledge. That’s where the diminished triads come in. They, like much of the other information that you are being introduced to, add to your theory understanding and harmonic vocabulary.

Diminished triads can be formed on the seventh degree, and on the second and seventh degrees of major and harmonic minor scales respectively.
