Jolly Joseph Haydn
Franz
Joseph Haydn was born in Rohrau in 1732 and died in Vienna in 1809.
This German composer showed promise at age five, and started music
rudiments with a schoolmaster at Hainburg. His first major job,
which would turn out to occupy the next thirty years of his life,
was in 1761 as Vice-Kapellmeister (later promoted to Kapellmeister)
at Eisenstadt. He worked for the Esterházy household.
Haydn
expanded many existing genres in his time. He was a highly original
composer and exceedingly prolific, having written 104 symphonies,
83 string
quartets and 52 piano sonatas (not to mention his cantatas,
oratorios, operas, concertos, etc…)
An
Amazing Haydn Fact
Isolation
agreed with Haydn. With the 1766 Esterházy palace being located
in a rather remote location, Haydn came up with new and innovative
ways to compose.
