Fabulous Franz Liszt
Liszt
was born in Raiding, Hungary in 1811 and died in Bayreuth in 1886.
This Hungarian composer and pianist gave his first recital at the
age of nine. In Vienna (1821), he had lessons from Czerny and Salieri.
Liszt
lived in Paris for a substantial amount of time (1823-1835), meeting
and becoming friends with famous painters, writers and musicians
including Chopin
and Berlioz. He eventually returned to Vienna (1838) and London
(1840 and 1841), the latter being a place that he visited and performed
in during the 1820s.
Franz
Liszt was arguably one of the greatest pianists ever. As a composer,
he had secured a place in history with his contributions to, among
other things, the symphonic poem and cyclic form.
An
Amazing Liszt Fact
Liszt’s
pupils anticipated the impressionistic movement through their use
of forward-looking harmonies. Some of these pupils included Rosenthal,
Lamond and Siloti.
