The Song Writing
Superiority of
Franz Schubert
Schubert
was born in Vienna in 1797. He also died there in 1828. His father,
a school-master, was his first teacher. Later, he studied theory
with Salieri (1812) and completed his first symphony in the following
year.
In
1817, Schubert gave up teaching and lived with friends. During this
period, he met Michael Vogl (a great interpreter of Schubert’s
songs). Others who crossed paths with Schubert included the painter
Leopold Kupelweiser and musician Franz Lachner.
Schubert
was one of the greatest melodic writers of all time, as can be seen
in the quality and quantity of songs that he wrote. With the exception
of concertos (he didn’t write any) and operas, he is still
today considered to be a composer of the highest caliber.
An
Amazing Schubert Fact
Schubert
constantly struggled financially. To make matters worse, many of
his best works were performed after his death.
