Fabulous French Horn
Playing is an Art
Quality
French horn playing is not an easy task. The instrument has a range
of about three and a half octaves and its double horn version, pitched
in F and Bb, is prominent in modern day use. The designer of this
type of horn was Fritz Krupse.
Composers
that have written concertos for this instrument include Mozart (he
wrote four of them) and Hindemith. In terms of its place in the
symphony orchestra, the horn became much more prominent in the nineteenth
century, with composers like Strauss and Mahler
increasing the amount of horns scored in some of their works.
One
of the great modern horn players is Grammy nominated Barry Tuckwell,
born in Australia in 1931. He has many quality recordings to his
credit.
