Major and Minor Key Signatures Tidy up Music Manuscript

Key signatures are written at the start of each staff and indicate the key that a given composition is in. Different keys have different amounts of sharps (#) or flats (b) as such:

• C major and A minor: no sharps.
• G major and E minor: one sharp (F#).
• D major and B minor: two sharps (F# and C#).
• A major and F# minor: three sharps (F#, C# and G#).
• E major and C# minor: four sharps (F#, C#, G# and D#).
• B major and G# minor: five sharps (F#, C#, G#, D# and A#).
• F# major and D# minor: six sharps (F#, C#, G#, D#, A# and E#).
• C# major and A# minor: seven sharps (F#, C#, G#, D#, A#, E# and B#).

• C major and A minor: no flats.
• F major and D minor: one flat (Bb).
• Bb major and G minor: two flats (Bb and Eb).
• Eb major and C minor: three flats (Bb, Eb and Ab).
• Ab major and F minor: four flats (Bb, Eb, Ab and Db).
• Db major and Bb minor: five flats (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db and Gb).
• Gb major and Eb minor: six flats (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb and Cb).
• Cb major and Ab minor: seven flats (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Cb and Fb).
