A List of
Instruments Would do
Know Your Orchestral, Chamber and Solo Instruments
A
list of instruments is like a company’s portfolio… sort
of. Allow me to me clarify. Would you invest money in a company
that you know nothing about? Well, I suppose it’s possible
to do that. However, that’s probably not the wisest choice,
given you work hard for your money and you want it to be safely
invested.
The same can be said when it comes to composing,
especially for orchestra. If you know nothing about the members
of the orchestra (instruments) and how they interact, it’s
going to be difficult for you to invest time into composing effectively
for that medium.
Any information
is better than none at all. With that having been said, here is
a list of some instruments and when they originated. Other snippets
of information may include compositions that use these instruments,
the instrument’s
range and performers that have brought this instrument to the
forefront.
Here’s
the list. Click on any of the links within it for more information.
