Music Orchestration Scores!
I
realize that the title, Music Orchestration Scores, sounds like
a person named Music Orchestration getting a goal in a sporting
event. Of course, orchestration is absolutely the skill of scoring
for orchestra or band.
There have been many who have made this skill
into an art form. My favorites include Berlioz, Mahler,
Ravel
and Rimsky-Korsakov. These composers knew all of the tricks involved
in combining instruments well, and achieving effective and original
orchestral effects.
The above
masters and their scores should be studied over and over again by
students and professionals alike. Other composers that should be
considered superb in their orchestration skills include, of course,
Haydn,
Mozart
and Beethoven.
For
useful tips on orchestration with respect to color, texture and
balance, dip into the resource book entitled Ready,
Set, Compose!
