The
Pathetique
Sonata is Superb
Beethoven
Sonata Op. 13
(Second Movement)
The
Pathetique Sonata is what you heard in the mp3 recording! This C
minor sonata’s second movement is in the key of Ab and marked
as adagio cantabile.
Beethoven
was not afraid to move from key to key in this famous movement,
and he boldly ventured into the tonic minor and even glided into
E major before finally returning to his main Ab major theme towards
the movement’s conclusion.
Decoys
Mozart’s
1774 piano sonata (KV 281) has a second movement tempo indication
of andante amoroso. Like the Beethoven work, this movement is also
in the key of Ab major.
The
Haydn
work (Hob: XVI: 34) was written around 1781-1782. Its first movement
is in D major and its middle movement is in the tonic minor key
(D minor).
