This
Sonata in D Major
is Something Else
Mozart
Sonata KV 311
(Second Movement)
Your
answer is correct! Mozart’s KV 311 sonata in D major (written
in 1777) has this lovely second movement placed in the key of G
major. With a tempo
marking of andante con espressione, this piece innocently floats
along and ends with right hand octaves playing pianissimo.
Decoys
Our
friendly decoys today are Beethoven’s second movement of his
Op. 10, No. 1 sonata and Haydn’s Menuet al Rovescio, from
his Hob. XVI: 26 piano sonata. The Beethoven second movement, marked
adagio molto and in the key of Ab major, has a good deal of decorative
writing involving 64th notes.There are also some 128th notes…
