Trombone Concerto and
Solo Works are Terrific
There
sure are some amazing trombone concertos and solos to be admired.
For example, Rimsky-Korsakov wrote a wonderful concerto for trombone.
Incidentally, trombone means large trumpet.
Here are some other interesting facts about this versatile instrument.
The trombone
came into existence in the middle part of the fifteenth century.
By the seventeenth century, the slide trombone was being produced
in three different sizes. Nowadays, treble, alto, tenor, bass, tenor-bass
and double-bass (contrabass) trombones are all different members
of this instrument’s family.
The
great classical composer Beethoven began using the trombone in his
famous fifth symphony (1808) and consistently scored for it regularly
thereafter. As for great trombone performers, some past and present
virtuosos include Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Christian Lindberg.
